3/50 Project Save the Brick and Mortar
A few months ago I read about a wave sweeping across small businesses in the U.S. Have you heard about the 3/50 Project? I am very excited about it. Of course I am its about independently owned small businesses and I'm that! Independently owned and a small business. Since I'm not a writer or a public speaker I'll try my best to tell you what the 3/50 project is all about. What I love about the 3/50 project is that it is not just all about me, it is about me and 2 other of your favorite stores.
Let me copy from their info:1. Pick 3 independently owned businesses you would miss the most if they were gone. Stop in, say hello, and pick up a little something. Your purchases are what keeps us around.
2. If half of the employed U.S. population spent $50 each month in independently owned stores, their purchases would generate $42,629,700.00 in revenue.
3. For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. Spend it on line and nothing comes home!
If you are reading this blog I can only assume you are a fan of the store or at least curious about it. Stop in on your way to and from your other favorite stores please take note of the 3/50 Project and do what you can when you can to help us all keep going. Rest assured we all appreciate it, no matter how creative we get or how hard we try we can't survive without you, our customer.
Thank You in advance!
Not too long ago there was an article in the paper about keeping your dollars local and the benefits to your streets, schools, etc. I'm just saying "Food for Thought"! We all know the convenience of on line shopping but we can bring that to you also, just give us a chance.
Stop by after you visit Petals or The Decanter. Check out our new merchandise on your way to the Dry Cleaners did you need a card at Bellasera? now, think about your favorite stores or restaurant do you pass me on the way there?
Thank you for reading along I can only hope that I am one of your Favorite 3
Did someone have a new baby? Are you going to be a bride? Do you need something little to add to a special birthday gift? I'll be here as long as you are!
Many of you already shop here and that's why I'm still here thanks for helping me grow.
If you're curious like me visit http://www.the350project.net
Now if you have time scroll down and see why I think my store should be one of your favorites or take the time to email me with your suggestions.

Look A New Model !

Caleb Look how sweet. Caleb is my new great nephew and of course I think he is darling but what do you think? Who doesn't love a baby? Mom says he loves his bear rug and he loves taking a nap on it! He joins lots of other babies with the same opinion. We have gotten many great reviews from Moms and Grandmas. You don't know what you're missing if you don't have one of these rugs, they are so soft and according to moms everywhere they wash really well. The rug is available in many different animals: monkey, blue or pink bear, lamb, frog, kitty (out of stock), or blue dog(also out of stock), I will be ordering soon. The rug is great for a variety of ages, Infant to Toddler. The rugs are great to lay infants on the floor, and great for a movie, a nap or a TV rug for toddlers! The cost for a rug is $47.00. Call (217-428-2910) or come in if you'd like one for your baby. Remember it is great for a shower gift too!

Welcome to My Blog
Hi everyone! I am excited to get started and introduce you to my shop. My name is Jo I am the owner of It's A Girl Thing. The shop is located in Decatur, Illinois in the historic downtown , right on Main St. I opened a store 10 years ago in another location with a different name. Five years ago I moved the store one block and changed its name. It has been a creative outlet for me and has proven to be quite a challenge! Thankfully, I love a challenge! As most of you know I am the mother of 3 boys that are all grown up now! I am starting my sixth year with It's A Girl Thing. The store is still going strong and we are adding new things all the time, so let me tell you a little bit about it!
It's A Girl Thing is a small boutique in a downtown setting with 4 old brick walls and an original tin ceiling. I grew up with antiques and parents that were collectors so I am very comfortable with my surroundings. I love the mixture of old meets new so between the walls of my small space are a few family heirlooms and some unique fixtures found by my father.I wanted my store to be filled with items that were over the top. I knew it would entice the curious and create a fun place for girls to shop! The name would explain to both genders what you could find here, the items inside would need not be explained by anything other than "it's a girl thing". I have filled my boutique with unique gift items for girls of all ages. I have carefully selected fun and exciting things for babies who grow into little girls that want to become princesses that get to go to prom, find a prince, get engaged, become a bride, have a baby, become a mom and finally become a grandma. I hope you get the idea.
In the coming days I will show you the shop in pictures and let you see the items I have collected for your shopping pleasure. I hope that this blog becomes a place for you to visit from home, keep up with the new and be informed as to the best times to shop! I will let you know when I can what is happening about town I am looking forward to blogging with you!
